Donizetti Gaetano: Lucia Di Lammermoor DVD

Daniel Oren conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Chorus in this performance of Donizetti's tragedy. Diana Damrau performs as Lucia di Lammermoor, whose family fortune is under threat, unless Lucia can secure an advantageous marriage. Lucia, however, is in love with soldier Edgardo Charles Castronovo much to the consternation of her brother Enrico Ludovic Tzier. Before Edgardo leaves for France, he and Lucia exchange rings in secret and plan to be wed on his return. Against her wishes, Enrico arranges her marriage to Arturo Taylor Stayton and falsifies a letter from Edgardo insinuating that he has not been loyal to Lucia. Distraught, Lucia submits to marrying Arturo, just as an appalled Edgardo returns from the battlefield.
